Are you finding easy ways to learn English?
I
want to share this true story about my journey to learning Spoken English.

One day, I carry my 3-year-old daughter and put here on an idled motorcycle. (The vehicle was not moving of course). Now she told me in English,
“Ma put me down!”.
I was so shocked. I didn’t remember that I taught her any English Word. Neither I talked to her in English.
Another instance is when I spoil water in here dress.
You know what she said?
“Mama?, Look. My dress is ruined!”.
My daughter doesn’t know how to read and write yet. She hasn’t gone to school. But then, I amazed that in her young age she manage to speak English. Not only phrases and words but a complete sentence with complete thoughts.
How did she do that? She listens to English cartoon youtube videos. Then she was repeating what they are saying. Believe me, she listens and watches it over and over again. Like, hundred times I (100x) guess? And she repeats saying it again over and over. She has an environment (our home) that won’t judge her and laugh at her. Instead, we encourage her to speak English.
When I learned that she was talking that fluent. I get jealous of her. So now, what I did is that, I’m started to talk to her in English. So we can both learn from each other.
What is Significance of the story to you or to all us?
This such instance makes me inspired to create a one of a kind FB group. A group wherein we can practice talking without someone laughing at us. Those encouragements sometimes prevent us from speaking. This fear stops us from learning. Agree? I know you do.
This brought me to a conclusion that to learn Speaking in English you should be doing these 4 Simple steps as follows:
1.) Don’t obsess yourself with grammar! Yeah I know, grammar is important to effectively communicate with other people but…. If you read my story above my daughter did it without knowing what the noun? Pronoun? Clause? Verbs? Grammar etc. But she did it without those grammar rules.
I will ask you. How did you learn your own language? Did you start to check you Mother tongue grammar rules? Did you memorize tons of rules and structures? The answer to this NO! you learn by taking baby steps. You learn to speak by actually speaking.
2.) Shadowing. It’s a technique. Where in you are repeating to say the word exactly how you heard it. In my story, my daughter unconsciously doing the shadowing technique. She watches the movie. Listen to it and repeat what was the person said. She deliberately repeating it until she perfects the sound.
3.) Surround yourself with supportive people. People who can motivate you and won’t judge or laugh at your mistakes. My daughter has an environment where she was being surrounded by her Family (Us) that cheers here up. She can freely talk without hesitation.
So in your Journey? Where can you find a place to talk and have speaking partners? Good thing I have my own FB group where we send practice Live and send voice clips inside our messenger group 🙂
4) Have a child like a spirit in Learning. How to do it? Did you notice how child behave when they trying to figure out how certain games were being done? They just do it. When they made mistakes, sometimes they cry. Sometimes they were sad and gloomy and sometimes they laugh at their own mistakes. But after a while, they continue as if something doesn’t happen. So imitate it. Make mistakes. Laugh at it. Move on quickly.
